Fashion over the years has many common factors one of which is that it is meant to build fascination into people about what lies beneath the clothes. In many ways it is this necessity to cover up in order to adhere with the taboos of western society that I feel has lead to a high percentage of the crimes that come under the category of being sexually motivated.
So what is the answer?
Punishment for the crime clearly doesnt deter people from committing the crime - if it did then the crime itself would not exist.
To me it seems that it is the act of finding out what is hidden that acts as part of the motivation therefore the logical solution is not to hide it.
In the 1930's it was made legal for Men to venture into public places topless - a scene that is now common place in most areas of society and not seen as offensive or obscene.
Nearly 100 years later Women are still having to fight for the right to do just the same and yet unlike the male nipple the female nipple actually has a use so why is it still seen as a sexual thing in western society? Why do we hide what is not only a maternal part of the body but also part of the body that juvenile animals of all species can relate to?
In areas of the world that are classed as "Third World" toplessness is seen as a way of every day life and those women do not suffer the same harassment that women in the "First World" endure.
But why stop there?
If toplessness could potentially reduce the number of crimes of a sexual nature then surely de-sexualizing the body would almost eradicate sexual crimes completely - wouldnt it?
It doesnt matter if you are religious or not - there is no denying that we are all born naked, I have yet to hear of a person being born in a suit that is not their birthday suit.
Children have no inhibitions about their body and are quite willing to run around as nature intended until society tells them it is wrong to do it - but why is it wrong? What makes it wrong to be nude in society?
The answer is that it should not be wrong to be yourself - be the person nature made us, show the body that nature has given you - there is nothing wrong with that body no matter what the colour, size or shape of the body - its the only one you are going to have for the rest of your life so be proud of it and let the world know you are proud of it.
I have recently turned 40 and they say life begins at 40, I hope to see the time when the world will accept me the way nature intended not the way that society expects me to be

Hello to my fellow Cyclists
Hello to all you wonderful people that joined me on 12th July 2014 for the Cork World Naked Bike Ride. Yet another amazing year with an amazing turn out of quite simply the best and most amazing ever expanding group of people I have ever had the pleasure of being part of.
In 2012 I set up a blog to recall memories of the WNBR that was shrouded with the "nipplegate" scandal (I am sure some of the ride veterans remember it) Regardless of that we cycled our way into the hearts of many Corkonians and created awareness of how vulnerable cyclists are on the road. Even if we only get the message across to a few people every year that could be all the difference to preventing cycling road fatalities. In 2013 we took to th streets again promoting our message of cyclist safety and again we lit up the City with colour to promote a very important message.
On 12th July 2014 the same faces appeared along with several new comers, artists and models from all corners of the globe helped on the day to make this years event the best so far. Special mention to a few people that have tirelessly made this event what is is, namely Dave who has been the heart of the event for its 6 years, Another Dave - this one a photographer who somehow managed to throw himself into so many amazing places to take pictures of our colourful brigade. And this year I would like to put a special mention to our mobile DJ Gwada Mike whose banging tunes made the ride something never seen before.
There are of course many other people who participated in many ways to make the ride amazing again but these three names are the ones I have chosen to mention. Please feel free to post your memories of the ride and make this blog a time capsule of our memories of this amazing event.
A few things before I go - firstly who remembers the band that we danced in front of near the Mardyke walk?
and secondly - here is to our friend Vera who participated in her own special way despite having to work
Thirdly - to the parents of one of our lost companions - our thoughts are with you (I havent named them just in case they prefer not to appear on the blog)
And lastly - Heres to next years ride - I know I am already counting the days :)
